My Story

Years ago, the struggle of being a covert stutterer consumed my life. I know what it’s like to wake up with immense fear and worry about all of the unknown interactions that might happen that day. I worried about who I would stutter with and what they would think of me. I was afraid they would think I was stupid. I felt weak.

It got so bad that I dropped out of college and lost touch with the friends I had made. I felt alone. I felt like no one understood me.  So, I know how painful it can be.

I also know what it’s like to be on the other side of this pain. I wake up every morning knowing that I have the strength and confidence to say what I want when I want, regardless of my stutter, and I go to bed at night thinking about the people who stutter / stutterers that I helped. It brings me great joy.

The best part is that I regained the confidence that my stuttering bully robbed me of, and I found my life’s purpose.

I want this kind of life for everyone who stutters! Just because you stutter, doesn’t mean you have to let it stop you from doing what you want in your life.  My life’s desire is to help other stutterers / people who stutter make this shift too.  It’s important to me that people who stutter live enriching and fulfilling lives.

I know how painful it can be when you have a stutter.  And, I have dedicated my life to helping thousands of people stand up to their stutter so they can live the lives they desire.

I would love to offer you a free Stand up to Your Stutter consultation session so that I can help you start moving toward your full potential and a life that's free of the pain of stuttering. Life is too short to spend it answering to your stuttering bully.

My Approach

Toward a New Personal Reality

Adjust how you think, how you act, and how you feel.  This is all that's needed to live a more enriching, more fulfilling life as a person who stutters.  This is what it means to move toward a new personal reality

The only problem is that it's easier said than done.  Not to worry, that's what I'm here for.  If you really want it and are willing to put in the effort, you too can make the change.  I will guide you through the thicket to the other side.

I will help you:

  • Reduce the intensity of negative emotions.

  • Reframe self-limiting beliefs.

  • Identify achievable goals.

  • Understand why you get stuck in unhelpful patterns of behaviors and thoughts.

  • Release blocks to making the progress that you want.

  • Create daily practices that will move you closer to your new personal reality.

  • Use the tools you learn in our sessions.

I approach this work with a background in neuroscience and cognitive science (M.S., Biology, University of Maryland), as a speech and language pathologist experienced working with stuttering (M.S., Communicative Disorders, SF State Univ.), as a certified and accredited Emotional Freedom Techniques practitioner (EFT International), and 25+ years of my own personal path of creating a new personal reality for myself and my stutter.

Is this speech therapy?

Even though I am a speech and language pathologist licensed in the states of California and Washington, the work I offer here is in a coaching capacity.  As your empowerment coach I will not be teaching you how to change your stuttering behaviors.  We will not be working on "fluency" techniques such as stuttering modification or fluency shaping techniques, or any other tools for managing your stutter or stuttering more easily.  Although I will be incorporating my vast knowledge of stuttering and all of the professional and ethical responsibilities I carry as a licensed SLP, as your coach, I will not be providing any diagnosis or treatment of stuttering. I will be helping you to reduce the impact that negative emotions and limiting beliefs have on you. I will be teaching you self-help tools that can help you live a more fulfilling and enriching life regardless of your stutter.
